Boundary Post Article - Work Party Diary - Jeff BarleyWell, we changed the format of the work parties from every month to two day events in an effort to obtain more support. Numbers had dwindled on the monthly parties due to the many commitments of the active members. So the first of the new style events took place over the weekend of 25th & 26th May, 2002. The weather was wet and the event clashed with the start of the cruising season. As a result we did not get the massive numbers attending that we had hoped for. Nevertheless we tidied up around the Pumphouse and on the Sunday ventured up to Titford Pools to retrieve the ever present shopping trolleys and floating rubbish. The numbers of bodies may be small but the regular clean ups are beginning to have an effect; the whole canal corridor is now very much improved with rubbish becoming harder to find We had plenty of support from British Waterways, skips and staff being on duty. A good liaison is being built up with the local BW stall with Larry the lock keeper being very enthusiastic about the future of his patch after years of neglect. If any members have any ideas or pet schemes that they think the Society should be addressing in the work parties/conservation areas, please let Mike Butler or myself know. | ||||||||||||||||
