The Chairman Notes......Martin O'Keeffe

New Boundary Post

I am pleased to be able to welcome Brenda Ward as our new "Boundary Post" Editor. I am sure that Brenda is taking on the role with a certain amount of trepidation so I am sure that we will all do our bit to make her entry into the job as easy as possible. Not least by providing her with copy for future issues

Brenda (and husband Brian) are of course veteran BCN voyagers on their narrow boat "Colehurst" so Brenda brings a wealth of knowledge of things BCN to 'BP'. So lets wish her an enjoyable time in producing our magazine for us!

Not quite finally

Well I had used this phrase last issue as I had expected that it would have been my last column that I would be writing to you all. However no one has come forward to take over as Chairman so a little reluctantly I am still here for another year.

I must say though that a replacement needs to be found sooner rather than later. Whilst I can carry on in the short term I wouldn't wish to for a further year so 2005 will definitely be my last year as Chairman. Its not that I want to leave you all, it's just that I thinits time for a change, both for me and for the society. So the clock is ticking and someone will need to come forward at this years AGM.

Social Secretary

We are still looking for a replacement for Christine Potter as Social Secretary as we need to have a person not only to sort out the programme but meet and greet the speakers and sort out any problems that might arise on the evening of the talk

I would like to thank Christine for the splendid arrangements for the Christmas Quiz at Hawne Basin, also thanks to Phil and Dot Clayton who organized the quiz and to everyone at Coombeswood Canal Trust for the excellent buffet.

To continue with these votes of THANKS I know all BCNS members would like to thank Martin for his years as an excellent chairman and I believe that anyone who might consider this position may be feeling that his is such a hard act to follow. It can be done! You've got 10 months to prepare so come on give it some thought.....Ed
